Students Quilting Pillows Is Good Lesson
Fourth grade Students quilting pillows at the Horizons-on-the-Hudsons school in Newburgh taught them some valuable and basic lessons. Their "Quilted Pillows" project taught them math skills and required a great deal of fine motor skills including hand-eye coordination plus plenty of patience. Each student chose and cut their own fabrics and used a pattern and hand sewing each square that made up their pillows. They stuffed their pillows and did the final stitching up to complete their projects. Each student felt enormous pride in their work and showed them off to the rest of the students. After this fun type of learning activity they took photos of each pillow that will go into a personal scrapbook to take home. More schools should follow suit.Labels: quilting
