Start A Beginner Quilting Club For Kids This Summer

beginner quiltingA fantastic way to keep your kids busy this summer is to start a beginner quilting club for them. The quilts could be kept small and simple. Neighborhood children could meet at one house or a different home every week. Each child could gather their own scraps of materials. Having someone to guide them through the steps of quilting is neccesary but believe me once they get started on it they will fall in love with quilting. Having extra supplies on hand is important as is outlining copies of the quilt patterns for each child. It would make a great summer activity for children who need something to do.

Quilting Magazine For Kids

quilting magazineQuilting, kids can do it to. Quilting is something that many children might even enjoy taking up for many reasons. If you want to give your kids the extra advantage then check out the quilting magazine for kids online at umanitoba.ca where you will find helpful hints and guides for you and your children.

An excerpt from the magazine online shows that they will start with the basics of quilting. Here is an example, "Use 100% cotton thread or embroidery floss. When sewing with thread, pick a color that blends with your fabric. If you have several fabric colors, try beige or gray thread. If a project calls for embroidery floss, match it to your fabric or choose a contrasting color that really jumps out. Always separate the floss threads and use only two strands at a time. If you use more, the floss may knot or be too bulky.".

Free Quilting Stencils Online

free quilting stencilsWhen most people think of stencils they think of stencils for decorating walls or signs with paint. However, stencils for quilting is something quite different. In fact, they are fast becoming a must have tool for many quilters. Most are made of sturdy plastic with holes punched out of them. They are used to lay down a pattern to follow when stitching. The stencils allow the quilter to re-create elaborate and difficult patterns on each quilt top. Stencils allow an easy way to transfer and follow a stitch design. There are many sites that offer free quilting stencils. You can also pick up all the supplies you will need to go with them at these many online stores.
