Photo Memory Quilting

quiltingUsing precious photos, original art or mementos and even such items as clothing you can create an heirloom memory quilt. Quilting is special in itself and when you make it personalized then the quilt quickly becomes something to treasure and keep through the ages. You could select black and white or colored photos, any size and use as many as you want. All you would need to do is find high quality photo printing fabric and place the photos in the patterns you desire. Making quilt blocks with these pictures is a great idea or placing them next to other keepsake items is also good. Pick your colors and embroider a special message along side.

Quilting For Memories

quiltingQuilting can be very personal and special in so many ways. One way is to honor those you love with special pictures of a graduate, a new birth, commemorating a special occasion or remembering a loved one or ones that have passed. Photo memory quilts are made with love and warmly received and treasured by those they are given.

When making a memory quilt be sure to choose your photos carefully and pick the ones you know will mean the most to the recipient. Grandparents would love quilts made with their grandchildren's photos. Mom and Dad's 25th or 50th wedding anniversary would be a very special event to cherish in this way and anyone who has lost a close loved one would appreciate this special gift.

Students Quilting Pillows Is Good Lesson

quiltingFourth grade Students quilting pillows at the Horizons-on-the-Hudsons school in Newburgh taught them some valuable and basic lessons. Their "Quilted Pillows" project taught them math skills and required a great deal of fine motor skills including hand-eye coordination plus plenty of patience. Each student chose and cut their own fabrics and used a pattern and hand sewing each square that made up their pillows. They stuffed their pillows and did the final stitching up to complete their projects. Each student felt enormous pride in their work and showed them off to the rest of the students. After this fun type of learning activity they took photos of each pillow that will go into a personal scrapbook to take home. More schools should follow suit.
